Bunny Blonde Is the Celeb-Approved Hair Color for Spring 2024

Taking your hair color a few notches lighter now that there are sunny days ahead? It’s predictable, sure. But “bunny blonde” is also a softer take, allowing you to dip into more sun-bleached hues (think wheat, linen, and golden blonde) without veering into beachy hair territory.

As the name implies, bunny blonde refers to the shade of a rabbit’s soft, sandy fluff, which is never just one allover hue. It’s also defined by a supersoft finish that blends away harsh lines. “Bunny blonde is a fresh, bright blonde,” says colorist Harriet Muldoon, from London’s Larry King Salon, who coined the phrase. “It’s the perfect shade for the start of spring, so that’s where the name came from.”

“Bunny” is also a nod to the “bombshell beauties who rock the look,” she says and name-checks Sienna Miller and Poppy Delevingne as great references. We’ve clocked Sofia Richie Grainge and Elle Fanning working the trend too.

It goes without saying that bunny blonde is stirring up inspiration for the change of season. It’s also a marked departure from the layered blonde that Muldoon prefers in the winter months, which involves “a combination of glosses from root to tip to give a seamless blend, adding warmth to the blonde tone.”

As soon as we see sunshine, we want our blonde to be brighter, she says. “Our roots can feel a little flat at this time of year, so it’s time to give them a lift,” Muldoon notes. “This can also make your hair feel thicker, add texture and give you a boost—literally putting a spring in your step.”

Enter bunny blonde, which blends highlights and balayage for dimension. “It’s about going back to the base and adding more highlights to give us a boost and less root drag—but still with a modern twist,” says Muldoon.

She likes to add a gloss and meticulously weave together lighter highlights at the roots before working in some balayage pieces to reflect the spring light. “I would always color melt the blonde to create a seamless finish,” says Muldoon. “However, the idea is to leave your blonde super bright and light.”

Th key to the look is visiting your colorist every 8 to 12 weeks, to keep your blonde vibrant, and investing in an arsenal of shine-imparting products, including Muldoon’s recommendations of Redken’s Acid Color Gloss Shampoo and the protein-packed Larry King Hair Care Liquid Hairbrush Conditioner for added moisture.

While bleach blonde will always have its place, bunny blonde will be trending this spring for those who prefer a more subdued vibe.
