Caitlin Clark Goes ‘Mermaid’ Mode in Mexico as the Summer Olympics Kick Off
As the world gets hyped for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Caitlin Clark is taking a well-deserved vacation.
The WNBA rookie is enjoying the league’s Olympics break in Mexico with her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, and a couple of her Indiana Fever teammates, Katie Lou Samuelson and Lexie Hull, according to People. On July 24, Samuelson shared a snap of Hull and Clark relaxing in the water on a floating mat with the caption, “just a couple mermaids.”

Per the New York Post, McCaffery and Clark have also shared some snaps of the trip to their Instagram Stories. McCaffery posted a pic of himself and Clark throwing peace signs at the camera while lounging on a seaside deck, and Clark shared a picturesque photo of the bow of a boat pointed toward the horizon.
Clark was not selected for Team USA’s roster for the 2024 Olympic Games, a decision that shocked many given her meteoric rise in women’s basketball. In addition to leading her college team to the NCAA championships in March, Clark was number one in the WNBA draft, which took place a month later.
However, as sports journalist Jemele Hill pointed out at the time, Clark’s omission from the roster may ultimately serve her. With the Olympics break, Clark is able to enjoy some time away from the pressure cooker that has been her life for the better part of six months.
“Honestly, Caitlin Clark not being on this year’s Olympics team is actually a good thing—FOR HER,” wrote Hill on X.com. “In the span of weeks, she went from playing college ball, to becoming a professional, to having a grind of schedule. A multi-week break probably isn’t the worst thing in the world. She will eventually make an Olympic team.”
After competing in the WNBA All-Star tournament earlier this month, Clark told reporters that she anticipated that the break would feel “weird.”
“I’m probably going to be like, anxious that I’m not touching a basketball,” she said. “But I need to not.”
She may be anxious on the inside, but in the photos from her trip, the basketball phenom looks positively relaxed. Vacation looks good on you, Caitlin Clark!
