Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark was looking to build off the momentum of her 30-point performance in Friday’s win over the Washington Mystics, but she ran into a ticked-off Connecticut Sun squad that was motivated to shut her down.

The Sun, who lost their first game of the season this past Saturday to the New York Liberty, bulldozed the Fever on their way to an 89-72 win. The team held Clark to 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting. She was limited to just 22 minutes on the floor due to foul trouble.

Connecticut (10-1) led by as many as 28 points in Monday’s victory, which was its third over Indiana (3-10) this season. DiJonai Carrington recorded a season-high 22 points and also did an outstanding job defending Clark. DeWanna Bonner added 17 points and Alyssa Thomas chipped in seven points while pulling down 18 rebounds and dishing out seven assists.

With Clark having an off-game, the Fever were led by Aliyah Boston, who notched her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

However, it was Clark who was the subject of conversations on social media, as fans struggled to hold back their disappointment with her performance on Monday:

Teddy💛 @Teddy_20caitlin clark desperately needs to work on incorporating a mid range floater in her game in the off season

J @jjnorthridgeCaitlin Clark still needs to develop a floater/teardrop in her game. And she needs to be okay with taking mid range jumpers. Just my observation.

Chief Of The Fleet 🇺🇸⚡️ @TheShadowBodyDid Caitlin Clark just airball a floater ? Ain’t no way dawg pic.twitter.com/5NwP9ExFKo

The Inspired Mind @SavageAZ2I am not seeing a Fever team that creates plays. Caitlin Clark gets no screens for an open shot, then her team mates seem more concerned with running to their assigned than to keep an eye on Caitlin’s play-maker pass. This is the most lackluster “Pro” performance#INDvsCON

Nobody @supernobodyyCaitlin Clark, who said “they let out a monster” after being left off the team USA roster has 3 turnovers 2 assists & down by 20+ points. Safe to say she’s putting the league on notice.

All Eyez On Madrid 🖖🏿 @ClevelandIsKingThat airball almost made me want to die, I haven’t cringed that much in a while

Caitlin Clark gotta get better at Dribbling, Turnovers, and being a inside scorer

You too good to be air balling layups bruh https://t.co/C9qDau0zKS

cordonblue @mphillpsIndiana Fever needs a total reset. What does the coach actually do! This team is not showing any signs of improvement. I love watching Caitlin Clark play but this team needs a serious coach.

Greer @Luckyhandz_ApThe only way Caitlin Clark can stop getting blitzed is by stop calling for a pick… you’re the #1 pick in the draft, beat your defender one on one…until that happens…. #WNBA

🐟 @fish_middletonFever suck but think about this. Indiana is gonna have the #1 pick in the wnba draft. And now Indiana has Paige Beuckers and Caitlin Clark. On the same team next season 🤯

Clark being left off the Team USA roster for the Paris Olympics sparked a ton of debate over the past few days. While she handled the snub in stride and said she would use it as motivation, she didn’t show much fire in Monday’s game.

The transition to the WNBA has been filled with ups and downs for Clark so far, but she has shown flashes of being the dominant player she was at Iowa. Unfortunately, Monday wasn’t one of those instances.

Clark will look to bounce back on Thursday at home against the Atlanta Dream (5-4).
