Only Caitlin Clark could make white nail polish cool again.

The 22-year-old basketball player continues to shatter records as she transitions from college ball to the WNBA. On July 17, the all-time NCAA Division 1 top-scorer and 2024 number-one draft pick broke yet another impressive record during the Indiana Fever’s game against the Dallas Wings. Though the Fever lost the matchup (93—101), Clark put on an incredible show with 24 points and 19 assists, the most assists in a single game for any WNBA player. With six rebounds, Clark was also nearing her second triple double after recently becoming the first rookie to record a TD in league history.

“She’s going to say it means nothing, but I think it’s pretty cool,” Fever player Aliyah Boston said of the record after scoring 28 points of her own during the game.

Clark responded, “I just try to set my teammates up for success.”

Obviously, that’s super impressive, but did anyone else notice that Caitlin Clark did all that with a controversial manicure that matched her headband and jersey number? Time to secure another sponsorship deal.

I need to know what shade she used.

For a while, it seemed like white nail polish would never recover after Tom Sandoval became the face of the shade around March 2023. Known mostly for cheating on Ariana Madix, his girlfriend of nearly 10 years, with one of her close friends, the 41-year-old Vanderpump Rules star could often be seen rocking white polish to perform with his band and fake cry on camera.

Despite the best efforts of Nails Inc—who later released a milky shade called “For Everyone But Tom Sandoval”—white nail polish took a major PR hit that has seemed to endure for over a year. Though Selena Gomez nearly started a comeback with a chic snow white manicure in November 2023, Sandoval’s commitment to the shade continued to make things worse.

On July 17, Sandoval dug himself a deeper hole by suing Madix for accessing explicit videos of Rachel Leviss on his phone without his permission, which is how she discovered the affair in the first place. Madix’s lawyer has called the lawsuit “abhorrent” while VPR star Scheana Shay has described Sandoval’s actions as “cruel” and “vile.” You can read more about the lawsuit here.

After all that, it would take nothing short of a legend like Caitlin Clark to reclaim white nail polish. Clearly, CC can really do anything.
