Calista Flockhart Says She and Husband Harrison Ford Play Practical Jokes on Each Other

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart make sure to keep things playful and fun at home with practical jokes.

Flockhart recently opened up to The New York Times about their life together and said she often refers to herself as the “Scare Monster” when they’re at their house.

“Because I hide behind every corner,” the Ally McBeal alum explained. “And so Harrison will walk in, and then I’ll go, ‘Raaah!’ And he’ll go, ‘W-uy-aah!’ And then I die laughing.”

She continued about their pranks, “I’ll put a plastic spider inside his big ice cubes in the tray, and then he’ll drink it. But then I’ll go to bed two weeks later, and he’s out of town in Jackson, and I’ll take the covers down and there’s this little rubber scorpion. It’s fun.”

The Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny star and Flockhart tied the knot in 2010 after they met eight years prior at the Golden Globe Awards in 2002.

The actress explained to the Times that one of the reasons they have been able to maintain a romantic and playful relationship is because she was “really content being home” as a full-time mother, adding, “I didn’t have the same dreams at the time, so we weren’t competing with each other.”

While she noted that they’re “very independent of each other” in many ways and “incredibly codependent” in others, Flockhart admitted that her independence actually scared Ford at first.

“When I first met him, he said, ‘You are the most self-sufficient woman in the world, and I don’t know how I feel about that,’” she recalled. “I remember I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ Because I didn’t recognize I was self-sufficient.”

Flockhart added that another reason things work so well between the couple is because they’re “both pretty introverted. We stay home a lot, homebodies, which is nice.”

Ford is the adoptive father of Flockhart’s son, Liam, whom she adopted in 2001.
