Canelo Álvarez vs. William Scull: Full Results

Canelo Álvarez faced Cuba’s William Scull in the headlining match of a Riyadh Season boxing card — Fatal Fury: City of Wolves — on May 3, 2025. The boxing great secured another win to continue his dominance inside the ring. The card featured several other intriguing fights as well.

The biggest talking point to emerge from the event was not the fights overall or even the headlining match itself, but rather the fact that Álvarez’s win set up his long-awaited super-fight against fellow boxing great Terence “Bud” Crawford. America’s Crawford faced off with the Mexican pugilist inside the ring after the main event. Álvarez and Crawford are now booked to clash on Sept. 12, 2025.

Canelo Álvarez vs. William Scull Result
Canelo Álvarez entered the event as the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine super middleweight kingpin. Meanwhile, William Scull headed into it as the IBF super middleweight titleholder. All aforementioned belts were at stake in the fight, which determined the new undisputed super middleweight champion.

In its aftermath, the match was widely criticized due to its supposed lack of action. Neither Álvarez nor Scull was able to get off any significant offense, but the Mexican boxing megastar did seem to have the greater ring generalship and aggression. His jab and body shots seemed to keep Scull from attempting anything risky, whereas the Cuban’s constant movement prevented Álvarez from cleanly connecting with a finishing blow.

Ultimately, the judges handed Álvarez the unanimous decision victory, and he was thereby crowned as the new undisputed super middleweight titlist. As noted, he’s expected to fight Terence Crawford this September.

Badou Jack vs. Norair Mikaeljan Result
Veteran boxer Badou Jack dethroned Norair Mikaeljan (aka Noel Mikaelian) via majority decision in the co-headlining match of the card. The verdict was questioned by some fans, who argued that Mikaeljan had displayed excellent volume punching, outdoing his foe in that regard.

Alternatively, some fans speculated that Jack seemingly landed the more powerful shots, sending his Armenian-German opponent back with his power and timing. Sweden’s Jack was also praised for his defensive arsenal in the face of a high-volume attack from his foe throughout their fight. Jack is now the new WBC cruiserweight champion and appears to be on a collision course with the likes of Jai Opetaia and Gilberto Ramirez.
