Cannes 2025 Red Carpet: All the Best Celebrity Looks
The Cannes Film Festival red carpet looks a little different this year.
The premier French film festival (and its attendant photocalls, parties, galas, and dinners) is back, and the dress code (for the nightly gala screenings—not, like, the entire town) got an update: no more nudity (ah, Bella Hadid in 2024, you will ne’er be forgotten). That means no peeks of nipple or side boob, and definitely no super-sheer fabrics. The organizers are also doing away with voluminous gowns that take forever to pose and photograph. Thus spake the French: No time for spats! Keep things moving! Hon-hon-hon!
“For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival,” reads the official festival website. “Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted.” And yes, guards can deny access to anyone who breaks these rules.

Of course, celebs are already pushing those boundaries. Amal Clooney went solo in a black John Galliano gown with a bit of a train, while Jennifer Lawrence played with volume at a screening for Die My Love. While none of these gowns were deemed obstructive enough to keep them from walking the carpet, Halle Berry told Variety that she put aside an “amazing dress by [Gaurav] Gupta” at the Opening Ceremony to abide by the dress code.
Even without visible pelvic bones to get attention, this year’s attendees rose to the occasion in magnificent fashion, pun intended. As for the other stuff going on, the 2025 jury is headed by Juliette Binoche and includes Halle Berry, Payal Kapadia, Alba Rohrwacher, Leila Slimani, Dieudo Hamadi, Hong Sang-soo, Carlos Reygadas, and Jeremy Strong.
