Chael Sonnen gives an interesting method fans should use to determine who’s better between Jon Jones and Islam Makhachev

Chael Sonnen has revealed an interesting test MMA enthusiasts can utilize to determine whether Jon Jones or Islam Makhachev deserves to be the UFC pound-for-pound number one.

The pair of gifted mixed martial artists have proven themselves as two of the greatest fighters to ever grace the sport.

However, Dana White is adamant that the accolade of the greatest fighter alive ought to go to Jon Jones.

The debate is currently rife within the MMA community, with many favoring the Russian’s more recent run of form, whereas others look back on the legacy the American has carved out.

However, Chael Sonnen has come up with the perfect test fans can use to determine who truly deserves to sit on the throne.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, he said: “Islam [Makhacehv] and [Jon] Jones, who should be number one? Jones has one loss that people love to dismiss because of the way the loss came, which was by disqualification, as though it doesn’t count.

“Islam has a loss. There was no hook or crook behind that—he got beat. It was very unlikely to happen again, and it wasn’t by a gentleman who was better than him.

“Here’s how I believe this should be looked at: If you’re going to do a list, you’re going to say, ‘These are the ten best guys’ — if you have a son, to give your son the skills of one guy, who’s the guy you give to your son before he has to walk in there (the cage).

“That’s mythical; I realize that. But knowing who could win if they all weigh the same, when they’re separated by eighty pounds, is also mythical.”
