Chelsea star would snub Man City

Chelsea suffered just their second defeat of the Premier League season on Sunday as they were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool.

The Reds had dropped to second place shortly before the game courtesy of Manchester City’s win over Wolves, but Mohamed Salah’s penalty put Arne Slot’s side in front at Anfield and back on course to return to the summit.

Nicolas Jackson drew the Blues level shortly after the break, but Liverpool replied instantly with Salah setting up Curtis Jones to restore the hosts’ advantage.

Enzo Maresca’s side were unable to find another equaliser, meaning Liverpool picked up all three points and now sit top of the pile once again.

Chelsea, meanwhile, drop to sixth after the weekend’s results, but Maresca will have been relatively pleased with his side’s performance.

Despite defeat on Sunday, it appears that Chelsea have been handed a significant boost with one of their players likely to snub potential interest from elsewhere.

According to Football Insider, talisman Cole Palmer is not interested in a potential return to Man City, amid speculation that the Premier League champions could be interested in the player.

Palmer was unable to help Chelsea avoid defeat at Anfield on Sunday

The 22-year-old left City to join Chelsea last summer and has since enjoyed a quite astounding spell in London.

The attacking midfielder has scored a remarkable 31 goals and provided a further 20 assists in just 55 games for the West London side across all competitions.

He has been named England Men’s player of the year, as well as winning Chelsea’s Player of the Season last term.

Palmer’s incredible form has prompted speculation that City could try to re-sign the Englishman as a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, but the report claims that Palmer has no interest in returning to The Etihad.

Instead, the player is said to be willing to repay the faith that the Blues showed in him and has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge any time soon.

Palmer’s current contract with Chelsea is set to run until the end of the 2032/33 campaign.
