Cheltenham Festival 2024 Gold Cup day tips
Friday at Cheltenham Festival never disappoints and this year’s Gold Cup day has the big winner from last year Galopin Des Champs favourite once more.
The Gold Cup of course, heads the lineup on Friday and is the feature race of the entire festival but there’s also the Grade 2 Paddy Power Mares’ Chase, the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle and the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.

Cheltenham Festival 2024 Friday tips
1.30pm Triumph Hurdle: Sir Gino 6/1
2.50pm Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle: High Class Hero 12/1
3.30pm Boodles Gold Cup Chase: Galopin Des Champs 11/10
4.50pm Paddy Power Mares’ Chase: Dinoblue 6/4
Sir Gino
Currently Sir Gino is an each-way price for the Triumph and it’s the fact he’s got a lot going for him that will likely see him get hammered in over the next few weeks.
Trained by Nicky Henderson, who won this race in 2019 with Pentland Hills, 2015 with Peace And Co, as well as another FIVE times in 2009, 2010, 1999, 1987 and 1985.

He’s long overdue for another with Willie Mullins dominating this race since Burning Victory’s win in 2020.
Sir Gino looks the business, and after having a wind op in the summer, has shown that has worked wonders with a Kempton Christmas Festival win in the Juvenile Hurdle by quite the margin.
Henderson’s hurdlers are of different levels recently and in the yellow and black check pattern of Shishkin and State Man, could follow in the footsteps of some of the owners’ stars as he too has that extra quality you look for in a Grade 1 horse.
High Class Hero
High Class Hero has also been tipped for the Wednesday in the Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle as many others have early possible entries into either.

The difference is this one is a step up to 3m which some will relish and others will bypass with stamina in question.
This Willie Mullins-trained horse could fare well on both and has posted some great times already and as a 12/1 shot here looks more likely to head to the 3m hurdle instead.
This could be a big final day of the Cheltenham Festival for the trainer who also has the big favourite in the Gold Cup and could be eyeing a couple of big winners on the day.
Including this, currently each-way, seven-year-old who has so far gone unbeaten in rules races with all his races coming in Ireland so far.
The Sulamani gelding, has been favourite each time too on varying going, but crucially has gone with ease over 2m5f on two occasions.
The latest, being ahead of The Big Doyen at Limerick in listed company and will surely be equally suited to the 3m as a result.
Galopin Des Champs

Galopin Des Champs was a big NAP winner on the Friday in last year’s festival, beating Bravemansgame in the 2023 Gold Cup by a comfortable margin.
He dipped in form for two races behind Fastorslow but on his second race and back to a preferred distance he really showed his ability and even potential increase, with a huge win over Gerri Colombe which is no easy feat.
He looked back to his best and as a result was absolutely hammered in in the odds.
You can now be lucky to have anything over evens on the Mullins-trained horse to win the Gold Cup, and the faith kept in him will be a big reward after such a convincing victory at Leopardstown in the Savills Chase.
He likes Cheltenham and can handle soft or yielding ground which at this very early stage is a bonus as the festivals in recent years have all featured a couple of terrible days in terms of rainfall and probably won’t be much dryer this year, aiding Galopin’s chances even more.
Dinoblue
This is another big runner for trainer Willie Mullins and owner JP McManus, with the two holding great entries across the entire festival.
If two wins on Gold Cup day wasn’t enough, Mullins is being tipped to bag a treble, with the favourite Dinoblue.
Dinoblue was the 7/2 favourite at last year’s Grand Annual but was well beaten by Maskada.
That being said, he’s progressed on from that in some style this season going up 14lb on British rating.
Impressing so much especially at 9/4 when winning by over seven lengths to stablemate Gentleman De Mee, comfortably too.
Second place did have to give away a few more pounds but it still didn’t look like that would have affected things very much and so Dinoblue has to be sided with here to continue his big rise as a Grade 1 chaser.
