Chiefs face ‘uphill battle’ after crushing Bills loss

The Kansas City Chiefs were once again on the wrong side of a one-score game, going down 28-21 to the Buffalo Bills, as Patrick Mahomes and Co. will now go into the bye week off a loss.

Now at 5-4, the Chiefs, if the playoffs were to begin today, would be at home on the couch for the first time in Mahomes’ era as the starter.

That’s nightmare fuel.

When assessing the game against Buffalo, Mahomes knows that it’s gut-check time for his team when they emerge from the bye week.

“We’ve had good moments, we’ve had bad moments, we got to be more consistent as a team, I got to be more consistent at quarterback,” Mahomes said. “We got to be able to battle, we’ve been in these tight, close games in our history, but they’re not going our way now. How can we deal with that adversity, you can only learn from so many losses, you got to learn from it fast.

“It’s going to be an uphill battle when we get back, but I think our guys are up to it.”

Chiefs in trouble in playoff pictureCurrently on the outside looking in as the Jacksonville Jaguars occupy the No. 7 seed and hold the tiebreaker over the Chiefs, this isn’t a spot Andy Reid’s team is used to being in.

They aren’t even top of their division, currently third behind the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers, so this bye will have perhaps come at the perfect time for the Chiefs.

They were in great form and had the chance to ram home their momentum against Buffalo, but fell just short, and after being 12-0 in one-score games last year (including playoffs), the Chiefs are now 0-4.

So, something has to change for the defending AFC champs, and when they emerge from the bye week, they have to start stacking wins again. Because at 5-4, the margin for error isn’t exactly big, even for a team like Kansas City.
