Rashee Rice is focused on personal growth after an offseason defined by some negative headlines.

The second-year receiver addressed his off-field incidents, which included an arrest for his involvement in a car crash in Dallas in March and an alleged assault against a photographer in May, at the Pat Clarke youth football camp on Saturday.

“I’ve learned so much from that. All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that,” Rice said, per Jesse Newell of The Kansas City Star. “This is a step in a better direction for me.”

He said that he is trying to move past what happened and become a positive presence in the locker room.

“Accidents and stuff like that happen,” Rice said, per Newell. “But all you can do is move forward and walk around being the same person, try to be positive so that everybody can feel your love and your great energy.”

The car crash resulted in eight charges being levied against Rice.

He was charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury for eight charges total, per the arrest affidavit obtained by Jamie Landers and Kelli Smith of the Dallas Morning News.

The charges related to the incident involving the photographer were requested to be dropped after the victim claimed it was a “misunderstanding,” according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Rice has not been suspended by the Chiefs or the NFL for the incidents, although a decision on that should come shortly.

On the field, Rice had a very productive rookie season. He made 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns and helped Kansas City win it’s second consecutive Super Bowl. He was a pretty stable presence in an otherwise unreliable position group for the Chiefs, and losing him long term could be devastating to the franchise’s chances at a three-peat.
