Chiefs’ Travis Kelce slams NFL coach over pre-draft comments about Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders
The Shedeur Sanders draft slide remains a major topic in the football world, even a week after the draft began. Sanders experienced a whirlwind of events over just a few short daysâstarting with the disappointment of not hearing his name called on night one. Then, on night two, he was the target of a prank call, an incident that has since been addressed.
Throughout the entire pre-draft and draft process, Sanders’ name has been widely discussed. Some of the attention has been supportive, with people defending him, but others have tried to undermine his confidenceâeven after the draft concluded. One NFL insider suggested that Sanders may have intentionally underperformed during his pre-draft interviews.
âAt some of those [combine] meetings with certain teams that maybe Shedeur Sanders didnât really want to go to… I was told that he more or less sandbagged in those interviews… I donât know if he didnât take them seriously, what it was, but he did not give it his all in some of those interviews,â Jonathan Jones said.
Because he was selected so late, Sanders has also been labeled by some as merely a training camp body.
âSometimes as a 5th, 6th, 7th round pick, they are already cutting you. You are a camp body, you are there for training camp,â Emmanuel Acho said.
Before the draft, an anonymous coach made disparaging comments about Sanders, prompting Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to defend him on the New Heights podcast.

âI think whoever the f**king anonymous person thatâs f**king saying this should f**king come out and say who they were. Like if youâre gonna leak that f**king sh*t, f**king be the one that says,â Kelce said.
Sanders has been accused of being entitled during his interviews, among other things, casting a negative light on him. But Kelce isnât having it. As one of the biggest stars in the NFL, Kelce has now offered Sanders his full support.
