‘Cigarettes is the secret’… UFC fighters are in awe of Carlos Prates after he sleeps Neil Magny at UFC Vegas 100

UFC welterweight Carlos Prates impressed many of his fighting colleagues after a brutal knockout of Neil Magny at UFC Vegas 100.

Prates appeared in his first career UFC main event on Saturday against the veteran Neil Magny in Las Vegas. He didn’t disappoint in his Octagon return, as he passed his toughest test with flying colors.

With just seconds left in the first round, Prates caught Magny with a left hand to the left temple that knocked Magny unconscious. Prates didn’t need any follow-up strikes as the referee quickly stepped in to stop the fight.

Prates is the latest rising star in the UFC welterweight division. Ian Machado Garry, Michael Morales, and Prates are just a few names that will carry the division for many years.

The future is now for Prates, and his UFC colleagues didn’t hesitate in applauding the fast-approaching contender.

Prates got the quick ascent to a UFC main event slot following three straight knockouts in the promotion. He earned a shot in the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series, knocking out Mitch Ramirez last year.

Prates didn’t waste any time acclimating himself to the UFC Octagon. He’s knocked out Trevin Giles, Li Jingliang, and Charles Radtke during his promotional tenure.

Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLCCarlos Prates calls out Geoff Neal, Jack Della Maddalena after first UFC main event winAfter earning the biggest win of his fighting career, Prates called out Geoff Neal and Jack Della Maddalena for his next fight. Maddalena is expected to return on the UFC’s upcoming pay-per-view return to Australia, while Neal is fresh off a win over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 308.

Maddalena hasn’t fought since defeating former title challenger Gilbert Burns at UFC 299. He’s unbeaten in his UFC career with recent victories over Kevin Holland and Randy Brown.

Neal, meanwhile, got back in the win column against dos Anjos following a two-fight skid. Before defeating dos Anjos, Neal lost to Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry.

Prates is quickly approaching the welterweight Top 15, which he’ll likely enter when the latest UFC rankings release on Tuesday. He’s a dangerous striker and a name to watch heading into 2025 and beyond.
