Clairo Drops Another Gorgeous Single Ahead of Forthcoming LP ‘Charm’

“Nomad” is the opening track to Claire Cottrill’s third record

A month after casually dropping “Sexy to Someone,” the summery banger for homebodies everywhere, Clairo has released more music. Her new single, “Nomad,” features a bending, almost psychedelic opening, as Cottrill’s calming, delicate voice enters: “I’d run the risk of losing everything/ So all my things become nomadic.” Later, she admits, “I’m cynical, a mess/ I’m touch-starved and shameless.”

“Nomad” is the opening track to Cottrill’s upcoming album Charm, out July 12. The date is consistent with her previous two records (2021’s Sling and 2019’s Immunity), which were also released in the summer. “Immunity is talking about all the things I feel, but Sling is getting to the root of the problem,” she told Rolling Stone in her 2021 cover story.

Produced Leon Michels, Charm was cut at Allaire Studios just outside of Woodstock, New York (where she also recorded Sling) and Diamond Mine Recording in Queens. The other eight tracks on the album include “Slow Dance,” “Terrapin,” “Juna,” and more.

In September, Cottrill will perform residencies in her home of New York as well as Los Angeles, each lasting for five evenings. She’ll spend the Fourth of July in London, performing at the Artists for Aid benefit alongside Mustafa the Poet, Blood Orange, Ramy Youssef, and others. Proceeds will be given to the War Child U.K.’s response plan in Gaza and Sudan.
