Commanders’ Deebo Samuel gets troubling injury updates ahead of Week 6 kickoff

The Washington Commanders are extremely banged-up at the wide receiver position going into their Week 6 game against the Chicago Bears.

Both Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown have been ruled out, and Deebo Samuel’s status is up in the air after he didn’t practice on Thursday and was limited Friday.

On Saturday, head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that Samuel, who is dealing with a bruised heel, isn’t certain to play.

“As for Deebo Samuel’s status, TBD,” beat reporter Ben Standig wrote. “Dan Quinn said the team is helping Deebo ‘manage’ his bruised heel. Doesn’t see this being a season-long issue, but enough of one for the coach not to say the WR is 100% in for MNF.”

ESPN’s John Keim revealed that Samuel was outside at practice on Saturday, but he was working off to the side, which indicates he might be listed as a non-participant, which would be a downgrade from Friday.

The Commanders will drop their final injury report of the week later on Saturday, but all signs are pointing to Samuel getting a questionable tag.

One thing Samuel has working in his favor is the fact that he has an extra day to recover with the Commanders playing on Monday night.

If Samuel suits up, he’s going to be the No. 1 target for quarterback Jayden Daniels once again. Samuel’s Commanders tenure is off to a strong start, with the veteran wideout leading the team with 300 receiving yards.

If Samuel can’t go, the Commanders will be forced to rely on guys like Luke McCaffrey, Chris More and Jaylin Lane.
