“Conor Dogs Him Out” – Insider Hands Sean O’Malley a Plan to Get Conor McGregor on Board for a Potential Fight

Daniel Cormier thinks there is a path for Sean O’Malley to fight Conor McGregor in the near future. The flamboyant bantamweight champion has claimed to be the next Conor McGregor and had called out the sport’s biggest superstar after his UFC 298 victory over Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. Recently, the champ has stated that he will be willing to move up to 155 pounds to face ‘The Notorious’.

Just this month, McGregor targeted O’Malley, calling him a drug cheat and advising he “kill himself” if he cannot get his head right. And former two-division champion Daniel Cormier, on his ‘Good Guy/ Bad Guy’ show with Chael Sonnen, thinks ‘Suga’ should actually call out McGregor and sow the seeds of a potential fight between them.

‘DC’ spoke about O’malley’s upcoming opponent, Merab Dvalishvili, who has been confirmed as the number one title contender by Dana White after his UFC 298 victory over former champion Henry Cejudo. The UFC commentator felt that while Dvalishvili’s world-class wrestling base was a nightmarish matchup for the 135-pound champion, he was not a box office draw as some of the other bantamweights may be.

This brought Cormier to “the next best thing” that ‘Suga’ could do, i.e. “call out Conor [McGregor].” The former champion felt that this would help keep O’malley’s “name aligned with the biggest name in the sport, especially now that McGregor’s coming back,” and hopes that when Connor fights at International Fight Week, one of the UFC’s annual marquee events, that Sean O’Malley is present in the arena, and McGregor calls him out.

“After the fight, hope Conor just dogs him out or something to just keep his name on that same playing field with him,” ‘DC’ said. This, he felt would only be possible if he could stop Chandler in an impressive fashion.

‘DC’ thinks ‘Mac’ needs to be his old self to set up a fight against O’MalleyAll of this, however, hinges on McGregor managing to get through Michael Chandler at their UFC 303 main event clash on June 29, and showing glimpses of his old, brilliant self, according to the former champion.

“And then as we move into his title defense people are going ‘Now we know Sean O’Malley is the guy that Conor McGregor wants to fight after he gets through his next fight,’ and old Conor’s back, he just looks so good [at UFC 303], if Conor’s able to get through Michael [Chandler],” said Cormier.

And that seems like an uphill task for McGregor. The former two-division concurrent champion has been out of action following a catastrophic broken leg he suffered at UFC 264 in 2021. In addition, the Irishman is sitting on consecutive losses as well as advancing age and a general decline in his professional career. This is why many do not think the former champion will be able to prevail over Chandler. But, if he does, it will open the door to many more interesting and potentially box-office fights. Including, perhaps, against Sean O’Malley.
