Conor McGregor deletes tweet mocking Dustin Poirier and Islam Makhachev amid UFC 303 uncertainty

Conor McGregor has targeted Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier during his latest tweet-and-delete spree.

‘Notorious’ has become notorious for writing wild things on social media before quickly deleting his posts – but someone always manages to grab a screenshot of them.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protégé was made to work hard during a pulsating fight before eventually defending his lightweight belt by choking Poirier unconscious in the final round.

McGregor dissed the UFC 302 headliners as he mocked its pay-per-view sales.

He tweeted: “500K PPV buys [UFC] 302 done. A nothing burger.”

McGregor hasn’t fought since breaking his leg during a trilogy bout with Poirier in July 2021, but he was expected to return to the Octagon at UFC 303 on June 29.

However, his fight with Michael Chandler has been dogged by injury rumours ever since a recent launch press conference was cancelled at the last minute.

Leading MMA reporter Ariel Helwani provided a worrying update on the UFC 303 main event after McGregor aimed a mocking post at two of his 155lb rivals.

“All systems seemed to be a go (again). Later in the week, Chandler did an interview with The Pivot about it being all good, and on Saturday UFC was promoting it again on the ABC fight night telecast. There was a scare about the fight being off and the scare appeared to be no more.

“But since this morning, multiple sources are now saying feelers are being sent out again for June 29. For a replacement and/or new fight(s).

“In short, there seems to be pessimism all over again regarding the status of the 303 main event. Actually even more pessimism – it seems – than on Monday last week after the presser was cancelled at the last minute.

“Is this insurance? Due diligence? Emergency replacement mode? Remains to be seen. It’s all developing (again).

“But it doesn’t appear as though we are out of the woods either way just yet. More to come, and hopefully a definitive answer one way or the other in short order.”
