Copa America 2024: Updated Bracket After Canada vs. Venezuela Quarter-Final Results

Another day of the Copa América knockout round ended with another penalty shootout.
Canada and Venezuela went into the end of stoppage time even at one goal apiece, meaning the match had to be decided by penalties a day after a penalty shootout thriller between Argentina and Ecuador.
Ultimately, Canada came out on top to continue a successful first appearance at Copa América.

Canada was knocking on the door very early in the first half, and it finally found the game’s first goal in the 12th minute after a perfectly placed cross found Jacob Shaffelburg, who put it in the net from a few feet out.

About 10 minutes later, Shaffelburg almost had a second goal but missed just wide to keep the match at 1-0. Canada had another golden chance to score a few minutes after Shaffelburg’s miss.

While it was all Canada in the first half, Venezuela came out of the second half hot, scoring the equalizer in the 63rd minute when Salomón Rondón scored on the break.

Soon after Venezuela’s equalizer, Canada once again came just shy of scoring.

After neither team managed to find the net before the end of stoppage time, the match came down to penalty kicks, though the first set wasn’t enough as both teams made three. Venezuela missed its sudden death shot, while Canada made its penalty kick to claim the win and advance.
