Cowboys trade piece is showing Dallas made a smart decision

The Cowboys made a lowkey trade earlier in the offseason to add cornerback help.

So far, so good on the return for Dallas.

The Cowboys made a small draft pick maneuver to acquire Kaiir Elam in a trade from the Buffalo Bills. The CB out of Florida was a first-round pick in 2022 and spent three seasons with the Bills.

Elam never lived up to his draft status with Buffalo.

But in the early going of the Cowboys’ offseason program, things are going better for Elam.

Beat reporter Nick Harris wrote on X on Friday: “It was another good day for Cowboys CB Kaiir Elam. Seems to be fitting in well and has found some early confidence on the grass.”

The Cowboys don’t necessarily need Elam to be a star.

Dallas has established stud cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland. They also drafted potential star Shavon Revel Jr. in the third round this year.

Elam is more or less a depth pickup in case of injuries or ineffectiveness or a trade.

But Elam is one of the more talented depth additions a team could have.

The Cowboys didn’t have to give up much to get him, and they’re hoping to reap better rewards than expected from the deal.
