I’ve never been a “no-makeup makeup” girlie; it’s just not who I am. Or I wasn’t, until I tried Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Serum Skin Tint. Now, I fear there’s simply no going back.

Before that, though, I was a devout full-coverage foundation wearer, as some good old-fashioned insecurity led me to cover every possible imperfection I could find—and there were plenty plenty (or so I thought). I struggled with hormonal acne as a teen and into my twenties, leading me to have my fair share of hyperpigmentation and acne scars to show for it. Also of note? I have rosacea and almost always look red, so you can probably understand why I didn’t feel comfortable showing my “real” skin for quite some time.

As for what finally changed? I guess I got older, more confident, and quite frankly, much busier—and therefore had less and less patience for makeup sponges, brushes, and complicated application techniques. I also realized I was using products that weren’t actively helping improve my skin over time, so it was a self-fulfilling prophecy: I covered up my skin because I thought it looked “bad,” but what I used to cover it was likely making it much worse.

With that in mind, I started my search for the perfect skin tint: ideally something I could apply in one step with my hands, then walk out the door. I also wanted something formulated with skin-loving ingredients, so my face didn’t feel dry or dehydrated after hours of wear.

I had my doubts that the perfect formula existed, but the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Serum Skin Tint proved me wrong. Never settle for less than exactly what you want, y’all!

Formulated with vegan collagen peptides, ceramides, and antioxidant-boosting cactus extract, Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Serum Skin Tint gives me the best of both worlds. It hydrates and protects the skin barrier, but still functions as a complexion product with its lightweight and luminous finish. The formula blurs imperfections and gives my complexion a gorgeous, lit-from-within glow.

What more, despite being billed as having lightweight coverage, I’ve found that the formula is actually very buildable. If you prefer full coverage (which I do), you can layer without feeling cakey.

As for how I chose this skin tint out of the countless others? I’ve always been a fan of Danessa Myricks products—I once hiked an entire mountain in a full face of makeup, which didn’t budge thanks to the sweat-proof staying power of the Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder. I figured if someone could make a skin tint that would actually stay on my face for a full work day, it was Danessa Myricks.

The only problem? My shade seemed to be sold out everywhere. I settled for the next best thing and got a few shades to mix together instead. A few Sephora trips and same-day orders later, I finally found a shade that worked.

But the skin tint was really put to the test when I unexpectedly came down with a fever. I was very sick and paler than ever. I was working from home and had several video calls to make that day. I didn’t want to worry anyone on the other side of the screen.

Seeing as I was under the weather, I didn’t have it in me to do a full face of glam. I applied the skin tint with what energy I could muster. Within a few minutes my husband walked by and said, “Woah, you look so pretty!” Mission accomplished.

It literally looked as though I had been brought back from the dead. For some added oomph, I topped my cheekbones with some Danessa Myricks Vision Flush Glow Hyper Radiant Liquid Highlighter. Why did I look better than days when I spend 25 minutes on my makeup? What sorcery is this, Danessa?!
