Daniel Jones looks like a new man in Indianapolis in Week One
The outlook for the Indianapolis Colts, especially offensively, was not very high when it was announced that Daniel Jones would be the starter. The first thing people remembered was the potential he had failed to achieve in New York with the Giants, as well as the lack of consistent success associated with that potential. Well, after one game, Jones has plenty of people rethinking a few things.
The Colts hosted the Miami Dolphins in their season opener and went on to win 33-8. Jones would go 22/29 for 272 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for another 26 yards, giving him nearly 300 yards of total offense. The way Jones usually goes about business is by not taking chances with passes and dinking and dunking his way down the field. In this game, he did not do that entirely. Jones threw some short passes that went for big yards, but he also went up top to Alec Pierce, who was thought to have probably had his opportunities diminish with Jones at quarterback. Jones threw a pass down the sideline in the second quarter on first and ten that was between the safety and the cornerback and on the back shoulder of Pierce. Pierce adjusted and made the catch before falling out of bounds. Â This was a throw that Jones would usually never make, and yet he threw it with confidence and accuracy.
â NFL (@NFL) September 7, 2025Along with throwing some passes that he would normally not throw, Jones just looked different overall. When he was the quarterback of the Giants, he did not always appear confident. In fact, he looked nervous or afraid to make mistakes for most of his time there. And that showed when he was out there playing. But with the Colts, he looks extremely comfortable with doing anything in the offense that is asked of him. He not only looks confident on the field as a player, but he also exudes it through his demeanor. That type of belief and confidence in the system he is in and with himself is huge for him and the Colts, contributing to their success.
With a confident Jones at quarterback, the offense appears to run smoothly for the Colts, and the team, which boasts talent, looks to live up to it at least for one week. Things could change next week, as the Colts face the Broncos, but for one week, Jones looks to have been the correct answer at quarterback for the Colts.
