Vinnie Jones still isn’t quite ready to be the Juggernaut again. Deadpool & Wolverine recently tried to get Jones to reprise his role as the hulking mutant, which remains beloved among a certain set of fans for lines like, “I’m the Juggernaut, b****.” Jones, however, isn’t planning to reprise the role anytime soon.
Speaking with Yahoo UK in an interview, Jones revealed he was approached to play the Juggernaut in the upcoming sequel, which features Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the roles of the titular characters. Jones last played Juggernaut in the widely-panned X-Men: The Last Stand.
According to Jones, he turned down the role because of the “mental toll” of putting on the costume.
Vinnie Jones in X-Men: The Last Stand.”Funnily enough I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one now, and I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically,” Jones said. “I mean it had its mental toll as well because you’re in it and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for Deadpool [& Wolverine].”

Jones has little love for X-Men: The Last Stand, which he called a “shambles,” with the role of Juggernaut being “diluted” and “not the same role [he] had signed on to do.” According to Jones, the Juggernaut role changed significantly over the film’s production amid various moving parts. That doesn’t mean that Jones doesn’t have some love for superhero films, though. In fact, he’s a big fan of Deadpool in particular.
“But Deadpool’s my favorite movie of all f***ing time more or less. I really wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit,” he said.
Interestingly enough, Juggernaut did appear in Deadpool 2, where he was credited as “Himself.” The character was voiced by Ryan Reynolds. As for Jones, since X-Men: The Last Stand he has appeared in numerous movies and television shows, but not superhero films. He’s best-known for his role in Snatch, where he played the Desert Eagle-wielding Bullet Tooth Tony.
With or without Jones, Deadpool & Wolverine will take a big step toward bringing the X-Men fully into the MCU, with confirmed cast members including Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), and Jennifer Garner (Elektra). Sabretooth and Toad are also expected to appear in the new film. Deadpool & Wolverine is currently slated to release in theaters on July 26.
