Colorado head coach Deion Sanders fired back at a report that he asked the Buffaloes’ band not to play the school’s fight song following touchdowns scored by his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Per ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Coach Prime called the report “idiotic.”

A report from Jake Shapiro of denversports.com on Saturday stated that Sanders allegedly told the band not to perform after Shedeur scores so that his own song, “Perfect Timing,” could play over the loudspeaker.

A Colorado spokesperson released a statement to ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura calling the report “not true” and stating, “Nobody ever asked the band to refrain from playing the fight song.”

The spokesperson added that a snippet of Shedeur’s song is played after he scores, but the band performs the school’s fight song immediately afterward. The same procedure is followed for Colorado kicker Alejandro Mata’s song after he scores a field goal.

Colorado is coming off a 28-10 loss to Nebraska on Saturday. Shedeur was sacked five times and threw for 244 yards, a touchdown and a pick-six on 23-of-38 passing, and the Huskers poked fun at him by playing his song in their locker room after the game. Despite the loss, Coach Prime continued to express confidence in his team.

“We have a tremendous offense,” he said after the game. “We should be able to move the ball on anyone. We should be able to protect with the experience that we have offensively. We just couldn’t get it going today.”

The Buffaloes will try to bounce back when they meet in-state rival Colorado State on Saturday.
