Denver Broncos’ upcoming opponent makes big acquisition ahead of Week 9
The NFL trade deadline is exactly one week away, and many teams contending to get to the Super Bowl have already made deals. The Baltimore Ravens did just that on Tuesday, acquiring Carolina Panthers wide receiver Diontae Johnson.
Johnson was the subject of several trade rumors and he is now on the move after just eight games with the Panthers.
The Ravens play the Denver Broncos this Sunday and will now have another weapon for Lamar Jackson. I recently discussed why the Broncos should steer clear of a trade for Johnson, but the Ravens got him for a fifth-round pick (they also receive a sixth-round pick in the deal), so it was a low-risk move for Baltimore.
Johnson may take some time to learn Baltimore’s playbook, so he may not be much of a factor in Week 9. He also missed his game last week, coincidentally also against the Broncos, while nursing a rib injury. Still, it will be something extra for the Broncos’ secondary to prepare for.
Will the Broncos make a move ahead of the trade deadline? Many fans inside Broncos Country are urging the Broncos to go out and find another option for quarterback Bo Nix, be it a wide receiver or a tight end. With Amari Cooper, Deandre Hopkins and Johnson already being moved, the options are dwindling. However, Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku and New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams are players who are being heavily discussed as potential players who could be moved.
While both of those options could be unlikely for the Broncos, many fans would like to see the team make a move with Nix playing at such a high level as a rookie.
Should the #Broncos have been in on Diontae Johnson or any other recievers to get Bo Nix more help? #BroncosCountry @JoshuaDover | @CecilLammey pic.twitter.com/GnmUvf9YUJ
— Denver Sports 104.3 (@DenSports1043) October 29, 2024It’s just as likely that the team will look at its own options, such as a returning Josh Reynolds or someone off the practice squad, like A.T. Perry, to provide another option in the passing game toward the later stages of the season.
