Derby – 8/5Draw – 19/10Luton – 19/10Derby v Luton predictionDerby and Luton kick off the bumper Easter weekend in the Championship with a behemoth of a game in the lunchtime kick off, with three points separating the two teams either side of the relegation zone.

Derby head into the relegation six-pointer in the better form out of the two after just one defeat in seven games, a run which has seen them climb from the foot of the Championship table to 21st place, where they sit just a point above the drop zone, though do have a much healthier goal difference than the bottom three.

Despite not losing many games in recent weeks, John Eustance’s side are three games without a victory, having been held to draws in each of their last two matches, most recently against Portsmouth but also notably against a top of the table Burnley side in their last home outing.

The Rams have the opportunity to pull themselves four points clear of the relegation zone with just three games to play, with their final two games of the campaign against fellow relegation battlers Hull and Stoke.

Luton make the trip to Derbyshire on Friday having had their five match unbeaten run ended by Blackburn last weekend, which now leaves them with only one win from their last five matches, a record that will need improving should they wish to stay in the second tier.

The Hatters are teetering on the brink of becoming the first team in seven years to suffer back to back relegations from the Premier League straight into League One in consecutive seasons, and head into the festive weekend three points from safety.

Only goal difference currently separates Matt Bloomfield’s side from the bottom of the second tier table, and with the Bedfordshire side’s final three games are all against sides in battling for the play-offs, leaving Friday’s bout their best chance, on paper, of picking up a vital victory.

Derby appear to have turned a corner following their appointment of Eustace as manager and have won 10 points from their last four home games, while no team has lost more games on the road than Luton, leading me to believe a 2-1 home win is in store on Friday.

Derby v Luton betting tipsJerry Yates to score or assist – 13/8 with Sky BetDerby to win 2-1 – 4/1 with Sky BetDerby v Luton bet builderDerby to win and both teams to score, Jerry Yates to score or assist, Ebou Adams to be carded – 25/1 with Sky Bet

Derby have won 10 points from their last four matches at Pride Park and will be spurred on by their home fans in a huge relegation six pointer which could put them out of reach of the bottom three with only three games to play.

Jerry Yates leads both the Rams’ goals and assists tallies this season and has two goals in his last three games after scoring the opener in last weekend’s draw at Fratton Park.

Only Sheffield United’s Gus Hamer has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards than Derby’s midfield workhorse Ebou Adams in the Championship this season.
