“To finally reveal this special logo that I’ve worked closely on is truly an exciting moment for me,” Ohtani said in a press release. “It is a visual representation of my journey in baseball and I am excited to share it with the world. I also look forward to using this logo with future projects that we will reveal throughout the 2024 season.”
The two-time MVP is already one of the brand’s most iconic athletes, while his new logo should help him continue to cement his status as one of the most recognizable figures in baseball.
The logo, which depicts Ohtani rounding first base, was released just before the start of the 2024 Seoul Series between the Dodgers and San Diego Padres on Wednesday. The 29-year-old has been with New Balance since he signed a long-term deal with the brand in Jan. 2023.
“Since joining forces with New Balance, Shohei Ohtani has been nothing short of incredible to work with both on and off the diamond,” said Chris Davis, New Balance Chief Marketing Officer and SVP of Merchandising, in a press release. “We have collaborated with Shohei on charitable endeavors in Japan, global brand storytelling, product, and a lot more still to come. Shohei is truly a reflection of our values, and this is just the beginning.”
It’s been an immensely successful offseason for Ohtani, who signed a massive 10-year deal worth $700 million with the Dodgers after spending the first six years of his career on the Los Angeles Angels.
Although elbow surgery will keep the two-way star from pitching until 2025, Ohtani has already gotten off to a blazing hot start at the plate with his new team. In 22 spring training plate appearances, he’s currently hitting .500 with a .577 on-base percentage while recording two home runs and nine RBIs.
Ohtani has broken records on the field and helped introduce an international audience to the sport, which should continue with the release of his official New Balance logo.
