By defeating the Los Angeles Rams 24-23 in Sunday’s NFC Wild Card Game, the Detroit Lions earned their first playoff win since the 1991-92 season.
Now, the longest drought without a playoff win in the NFL belongs to the Miami Dolphins, who haven’t won in the postseason since 2000:
Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzzWith Lions about to win tonight, Dolphins now have NFL’s longest ongoing drought since last playoff win (2000). A quarter century of bad decisions and some bad luck. Sad and embarrassing for a franchise once associated with excellence.
After going 11-6, the Dolphins made the playoffs for the second straight year under head coach Mike McDaniel. Unfortunately, the team fell in Saturday’s AFC Wild Card matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs 26-7. The game was played in frigid conditions at Arrowhead Stadium, and Miami’s high-powered offense suffered.
Tua Tagovailoa threw for 199 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The Dolphins totaled just 76 rushing yards, while the Chiefs racked up 147 yards on the ground.
Miami will surely be motivated to end their run of playoff futility next season.
