EA Sports WRC Is Getting A 2024 Season Expansion
Well, this is a very pleasant surprise from Electronic Arts. EA Sports WRC will not get a new entry into the series for 2024, rather, an expansion pack with content from this year’s season of the World Rally Championship will be coming to the existing game as DLC.
EA is normally no stranger to an annual sports title. You only have to look at FIFA (Sorry, EA FC), Madden, NHL and even F1 for a strong history of incrementally improving a game and selling it as a full-price title for that year’s licensing. We wouldn’t have been shocked for WRC to follow suit, but we’re delighted to not have to buy another game.
We’re hoping to see the Rally2 Toyota GR Yaris included
Set for an October release, developers Codemasters have confirmed WRC’s 2024 expansion will bring new locations – presumably Poland and Latvia which were fresh additions for the real-world championship this season – and new cars. No major regulation changes have taken place this season, though, so we expect that’ll just be the 2023 cars with updated liveries for the top-class series. Rally2 may see the addition of the new Toyota GR Yaris, though.
No word on the price yet, but a new version of the game will be released – handily called EA Sports WRC 2024 Season Edition – including the base content and the 2024 expansion.
In an even more generous, out-of-character move for EA, buying the 2024 expansion will give you two more DLC packs in the future for no additional cost. The exact content for these is yet to be revealed, beyond new cars and stages, but the first will be released in winter followed by the second in spring 2025.
In the meantime, the Season 6 rally pass is about to kick off, bringing with it more unlockable content for free. We’re most excited to take to the stages with a T-rex on the side of the car thanks to the ‘Rallyosaurous’ pack.
