Eagles News: Jaelan Phillips says “there’s literally no other team I’d rather play for”

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

‘It’s incredible:’ Jaelan Phillips shares what Eagles fans can expect from him – NBCSP
He went from a 2-7 team that hasn’t won a playoff game in 25 years to a 6-2 team that’s been to three Super Bowls in the last eight years. No wonder Jaelan Phillips is thrilled. “I mean, it’s incredible,” Phillips said Monday. “I had no idea this was going to happen, but there’s literally no other team I’d rather play for.” The Eagles acquired Phillips earlier Monday from the Dolphins in exchange for a 3rd-round pick. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark caught up with Phillips at Philadelphia Airport after he flew in from South Florida. “Obviously, Philly is a storied franchise, great tradition here, incredible team,” Phillips said. “I’m just excited to get in, get to work with the guys. I’m super excited. It’s going to be awesome.” […] “I love Vic as a person and as a coach,” Phillips said. “I had some good success with him. Excited to get back into his system and play with the other guys on the defense too.”

Can Jaelan Phillips buck the trend of recent Eagles trade deadline deals? – BGN
There are a number of reasons to believe the trade for Phillips, at least, will be impactful. Sometimes a new player has difficulty adjusting quickly to a new scheme and coaching staff, but Phillips played for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in Miami in 2023. In eight games before tearing his Achilles, he piled up 6.5 sacks. He’s only in his fifth season, he’s 26 years old, and although his counting numbers aren’t great this year, there’s reason to believe he’ll perform at a higher level in a more competent defense.

NFL trade deadline instant grades for every big 2025 deal – SB Nation
Dolphins trade EDGE Jaelan Phillips to the Eagles. The Miami Dolphins traded Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick: Miami grade: A-. Philadelphia grade: B+. Let’s start with the Dolphins’ side of things. Jaelan Phillips was set to hit free agency in the spring, and with changes already underway in Miami, there was a chance the Dolphins were not going to keep him beyond this season. Getting a third-round pick in return seems like smart business rather than watching him walk out the door in free agency. Miami is paying a portion of Phillips’ salary, according to Ian Rapoport, to secure the better of the Eagles’ picks in the third round. Philadelphia currently has its own third-round pick, as well as the New York Jets’ third-round pick. As for the Eagles, this is still a good move even if Phillips ends up being a half-season rental. Philadelphia has a need along the defensive front and during the 2023 season, Phillips recorded 6.5 sacks in just eight games before his season ended due to an Achilles injury. His defensive coordinator that year? None other than Vic Fangio. Then there is this: If Phillips signs elsewhere next spring in free agency, the Eagles will get a compensatory pick.

Making sense of Jaelan Phillips trade, re-signing vs. compensatory pick: Eight Eagles thoughts – The Athletic
The Eagles should consider extending Phillips — either now, or after the season (if he stays healthy). Edge rusher is a long-term need for the Eagles, and they don’t have major money tied up in Smith or Hunt. In fact, both are under team control for at least two more years (if the Eagles pick up Smith’s fifth-year option). Phillips, 26, could be part of the team’s defensive core. And the Eagles could pay him before Smith and/or Hunt get new years on their deals. If nothing else, trading for Phillips gives the Eagles a head start and exclusive negotiating rights in February before free agency. Phillips would likely be one of the 10-15 available free agents if he hits the market. Considering the talent, the fit, the position, and the age, it’s something Roseman should explore.

How much are the Eagles paying their major trade acquisition? – NJ.com
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Dolphins converted $5.1 million of that salary into a signing bonus, leaving the Eagles on the hook for $1.5 million for the rest of the season. Miami wanted to trade Phillips, so it makes sense that the 2-7 team would eat a lot of his salary. But it certainly works out for Roseman and the Eagles. If Phillips is strictly a rental, $1.5 million and a late third-round pick isn’t a bad price to pay at all.

Howie Strikes Again – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles had been linked to Phillips for a couple of weeks. He played for Vic Fangio in Miami and some reports say that Vic is a big fan of his. Phillips is in the final year of his contract and Miami is having an awful year. Trading him makes total sense from the Dolphins perspective. Phillips is an interesting addition. He is 6-5, 260. That’s a bigger, longer build than the Eagles other edge rushers. You like to have guys with different builds. Phillips is a good athlete so he’ll be a good fit in Fangio’s scheme. Vic likes to be creative with his edge rushers. He likes guys that can drop into coverage and actually cover. The downside with Phillips is health. He has had injury issues going back to college. He only played in 12 games in 2023 and 2024 combined. This season Phillips has played in all nine games, but his performance has been up and down. He’s got 3 sacks and 7 QB hits this season.

Dolphins trade Jaelan Phillips to the Eagles – The Splash Zone 11/4/25 – The Phinsider
The Miami Dolphins have been rumored to be open to moving some of their players and those rumors came true yesterday. The Dolphins traded away one of their edge rushers, Jaelan Phillips, to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 third round pick. While Phillips has been a disruptive pass rusher, he just hasn’t been able to stay healthy which is a common theme with this Dolphins roster. It stinks to see him go, but the Dolphins need to begin looking towards the future and making tough business decisions with a few of their players.

Packers Week 10 Opening Odds: Green Bay still favored over Philadelphia Eagles – Acme Packing Company
With that said, the Eagles have a few advantages that could lead fans to skew towards Philadelphia in this game. First, they are coming off a bye and should be largely healthy this week. The Eagles had five players listed as out with various injuries in their Week 8 win over the New York Giants, including wide receiver A.J. Brown and center Cam Jurgens, and those two plus others could return on Monday night. Even with those players out, Philly’s running game got back on track in that last game, as the team recorded a season-high 276 yards on the ground after failing to reach 90 rushing yards in five straight games. The Packers, however, have fared better when they have not been big favorites recently, and Matt LaFleur has been more aggressive with the passing game in games that are expected to be closer. Check out this data from Ben Solak of ESPN.

Early Week 10 bets: Browns and Eagles to cover; Mahomes for MVP – ESPN
Philadelphia Eagles to cover +2.5 (-105) at Green Bay Packers. Karabell: Many will view the Packers losing at home to the lowly Carolina Panthers — a team that now has the same number of wins — as aberrant. They should. That loss shouldn’t happen, and the Packers will probably play better against the defending Super Bowl champs. That doesn’t change the fact that the Eagles have a much better offense, led by a consistent, mistake-free QB, explosive RB, dominant WRs and TD-scoring TE. The Packers have a reckless QB and lack WRs, and they just lost their starting tight end for the season. The Eagles will win this game outright.

Cowboys vs. Cardinals recap: Dallas humiliated on Monday night as season slips away – Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys entered Monday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with their season still intact. It was barely held together, but technically speaking there were four walls and a roof. Jerry Jones and Co. may have borrowed building advice from the little piggy who built their house out of straw because it took basically a single puff from the Cardinals for the game, and subsequently the season, to come tumbling down. The Cowboys lost in embarrassing fashion. 27-17, and fell to 3-5-1 on the season. This marks the lowest point, the furthest under .500 that Dallas has been, on the season and on the eve of the NFL’s trade deadline it underscores just how over this whole thing feels. Again, the whole thing was running on fumes before Monday, but it is going to limp to the end in all likelihood across the holiday season.

Frankie Luvu suspended one game for hip drop tackles – Hogs Haven
Washington Commanders LB Frankie Luvu has been suspended for one game for repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players. He had been fined for hip drop tackles in Weeks 4 and 8 and now becomes the first NFL player to be suspended for repeated offenses. Luvu will reportedly appeal the suspension. If his appeal fails, he will lose $508,333 for one game check. Luvu has been having a rough season as he gets used being used more as a pass rusher on the defensive line. He hasn’t had the same effect he had last year, and has been inconsistent in his tackling. Luvu will miss the Lions game on Sunday, and can rejoin the team the following Monday as they prepare for the international game against the Dolphins in Spain.

NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 10 edition – PhillyVoice
I’m not that smart, and yet, it was pretty easy picking apart their flaws. If I could diagnose everything that was going to go wrong with this team, how could GM Adam Peters and his front office staff miss all of the above? Peters had a Joe Schoen-like offseason. It’s too bad Hard Knocks wasn’t filming it. Looking ahead, the Commanders have just two picks in the first four rounds of the draft next April, and Daniels aside, they have virtually nothing in the way of under 25 talent already on the roster. They have a rebuild of sorts ahead, because they have to replace all the old players on the roster that they signed this past offseason. And by the time they’re able to surround Daniels with legitimate contending talent, he won’t be on his extremely affordable rookie contract anymore. The good feelings from the Commanders’ dream season in 2024 — which oh by the way helped the rival Eagles win the Super Bowl by allowing them to avoid playing the Lions in Detroit in the NFCCG, lol — lasted for like one offseason. We hadn’t heard Commanders fans chirp for a while, but they were in full throat for one summer. They should be back in hibernation.

10 potential candidates to replace New York Giants coach Brian Daboll – Big Blue View
Mike McCarthy — Many of you will turn your nose up at this one, but check the resume. Like Harbaugh, a Super Bowl title and 12 playoff appearances in 18 seasons. In five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, his teams won 12 times despite dealing with Jerry Jones. McCarthy has a 174-112-2 regular-season record, a .608 winning percentage. If you are looking for an experienced coach with a successful pedigree, McCarthy has to be on the list.
