Eagles practice squad news: Ian Book returns
The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two practice squad moves on Thursday afternoon. An overview:
QB Ian Book was signed to the practice squad.
DB Mekhi Garner was released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
The Eagles waived Book from the active roster earlier this week. They had previously signed him to serve as the emergency third quarterback behind Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee in Week 17. Book then served as QB2 behind McKee with Jalen Hurts and Pickett not playing in Week 18.
With Hurts and Pickett on track to play this weekend, Book became expendable as QB4. And so the Eagles waived him, though it was reported that he could return to the practice squad. That’s exactly what happened.
The Eagles obviously don’t want to be in a situation where Book is needed to play but he’s here just in case.
MEKHI GARNER
The Eagles re-signed Garner — who previously spent time on the team from April 2023 through August 2024 — to their practice squad on December 31. But now he’s gone again.
