Eagles rookie report card from the Buccaneers game
The Eagles were thoroughly embarrassed against the Buccaneers on Sunday. In the Tampa heat, the Eagles just looked overmatched in basically every phase of the game. No doubt they will be back to the drawing board as they head into an early-season bye week. As for the rookies, they were minimally involved but there were some moments of note.
Quinyon Mitchell: B
The defense was basically uninspiring in every way against the Bucs, who moved the ball with ease for four quarters. That being said, Quinyon Mitchell played every defensive snap in a heat index of 107 degrees and played some really impressive snaps. He was tasked with covering Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, who had great games overall but had the hardest time against the talented rookie. It wasnât the best game of his young career, but he remained confident which is encouraging on an otherwise lackluster defense.
The Rest
Johnny Wilson failed to make any real impact on offense despite having ample playing time to make a difference. The passing offense couldnât find any rhythm as Jalen Hurts mostly looked for Dallas Goedert anyway. Wilson left the game early after being evaluated for a concussion.
Poor Cooper DeJean. A stupid play by Isaiah Rodgers caused the rookie to fumble on his first punt return attempt of the day. On his second attempt, Keele Ringo hit him really hard. He also got in for just one snap on defense.
Will Shipley had one kick return go for 23 yards. He played the Eaglesâ first snap on offense and then didnât appear again.
