Eagles rookie report card from the Packers game
The Eagles eked out yet another gritty win to improve to 7-2. This time they grinded out four quarters of football in Green Bay to beat the Packers. Here’s how the Eagles’ rookies made a difference in this game.
Jihaad Campbell: C
Jihaad Campbell had his worst game of the season against the Packers. After seeing his snaps reduced with Nakobe Dean back, it is crucial he makes the most of the time he is on the field. On only 34 defensive snaps, Campbell made some good tackles in the run game, but also missed a big tackle and gave up quite a bit in coverage (including a pass interference penalty).
It’s very clear the Eagles are experimenting with Campbell now they have a bit of a stocked cupboard at linebacker. The experimenting means a steeper learning curve for the rookie. It’s expected he has some growing pains.
Andrew Mukuba: B
Andrew Mukuba turned in a really solid game. After a rough stretch of games that were marred by missed tackles and big plays given up in coverage, Mukuba only gave up one (long) catch against the Packers and otherwise held it down. He also was much steadier as a tackler.
Mukuba is very talented and the nature of his game (and size) will mean some variance over the course of his rookie year. It was good to see him settle in a bit for a more consistent performance down to down.
The rest
Darius Cooper played a limited role on offense but never saw the ball. Looked decent as a run blocker out of the slot. Smael Mondon continues to be a valuable special teams contributor.
