Eagles roster news: Gabe Hall waived among 3 moves
The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced three roster moves on Tuesday evening. Here’s an overview:
DT Gabe Hall was waived.RB Montrell Johnson was released from the practice squad.C/G Jake Majors was signed to the practice squad.Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
GABE HALL
Hall’s departure (which was made to open up a roster spot for the Tank Bigsby trade acquisition) comes as a surprise since the 2024 undrafted rookie free agent had a good summer that resulted in him making the active roster after spending last year on the practice squad.
Then again, Hall only played five snaps (8%) in Week 1. Had Jalen Carter not been ejected, he would’ve been DT5 behind Carter, Moro Ojomo, Jordan Davis, and Byron Young. Hall was notably ahead of rookie fourth-round pick Ty Robinson, who was a healthy scratch.
If Hall clears waivers, the Eagles could have interest in signing him to their practice squad. If not, he’s a goner.
Hall wasn’t really a logical cut for the Birds when they currently have seven edge rushers on the roster: Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Za’Darius Smith, Joshua Uche, Patrick Johnson, Azeez Ojulari, and Ogbo Okoronkwo.
Ojulari and Okoronkwo were both healthy scratches in Week 1. And they are vested veterans who aren’t subject to waivers. A little weird the Eagles didn’t cut one of them instead.
MONTRELL JOHNSON
The Eagles signed Johnson to their practice squad on Monday. But after trading for Bigsby, Johnson was deemed expendable in terms of running back depth.
JAKE MAJORS
Myers is a newcomer to the Eagles. The 23-year-old played college football at Texas from 2020-2024 before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bucs waived him with an injury designation on August 25. Now he’s a developmental offensive lineman for the Eagles.
