Eagles tried to claim cornerback off waivers
The Philadelphia Eagles made a successful waiver wire claim to acquire depth offensive lineman Willie Lampkin. They were unsuccessful in trying to claim another one of their targets.
The Eagles were one of four teams who put a claim in on waived Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, per ESPN’s Field Yates. The other clubs involved were the Tennessee Titans, the New Orleans Saints, and the Miami Dolphins.
With the NFL waiver wire order mirroring the previous NFL Draft order, the Titans had the priority and thus landed JAD. And so the Eagles were never even close to having a chance at him.
But this is still a noteworthy development for multiple reasons:
1) It shows the Eagles had interest in rostering another cornerback despite already carrying six on their roster.2) The Eagles could have interest in Jalyn Armour-Davis if he becomes available again in the future.JAD, who played college football at Alabama (wow, shocking the Eagles would have interest in this guy), was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens with a fourth-round pick (No. 119 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft. He made three starts in 19 games played over three seasons while dealing with multiple injury issues. Our associates over at Baltimore Beatdown wondered if he might have been turning a corner (no pun intended) in his career:
In a dominant 30-3 win over the Washington Commanders this past weekend in the preseason finale, he recorded an interception with two pass breakups. He had two pass breakups in the opening preseason contest against the Indianapolis Colts earlier this month as well.
Armour-Davis, when healthy, has had impressive moments in previous summers too, so it may be reactionary to consider this time around different. However, now in his mid-20s with added experience under his belt, it’s also possible that the former Alabama product has simply improved and is turning a corner. For what it’s worth, he has looked like a much different player recently than even from a year ago.
Alas, JAD is now a Titan instead of being an Eagle.
