Economic Fighters League condemns injunction against ‘Reoccupy Julorbi house’ demo

The Economic Fighters League has expressed concerns over an injunction issued by the Accra High Court to stop the Democracy Hub pressure group from holding a protest scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
The protest is to raise awareness about illegal mining activities and was scheduled to take place at the Revolution Square, opposite the Jubilee House.
However, the police secured an injunction against the protest, citing concerns about possible public disorder due to the chosen venue.
Reacting to the development, the Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, said the incident marks a continuation of a troubling trend where state entities and processes are weaponised against the very citizens they are meant to protect.
“This is the latest in what has become a national legacy of the weaponisation of state entities and processes against the people these same entities and processes are supposed to serve.
“Yet again we must remind the Ghana Police Service and the Judiciary that the rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression are constitutionally guaranteed and protected. It is the collective responsibility of all citizens, including the police and the judiciary, to uphold and enforce these rights without prejudice,” he said in a statement.

Economic Fighters League on the reported Court Injunction Against Reoccupy Julorbi House
The Economic Fighters League has learned of a reported ex-parte injunction issued by a compromised court, intending to prevent Democracy Hub from holding their ‘Reoccupy Julorbi House’ demonstration on Saturday, September 21, 2024. This is the latest in what has become a national legacy of the weaponisation of state entities and processes against the people these same entities and processes are supposed to serve.
Yet again we must remind the Ghana Police Service and the Judiciary that the rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression are constitutionally guaranteed and protected. It is the collective responsibility of all citizens, including the police and the judiciary, to uphold and enforce these rights without prejudice.
A delegation from the Economic Fighters League will join the demonstration in solidarity with all who seek to uphold the rule of law and in defiance of this unjust order. We urge all to stand firm in defense of Ghana’s supreme laws.
