MEXICO CITY – Edgar Chairez beat Daniel Lacerda with a first-round submission Saturday on the preliminary card at UFC Fight Night 237 at Mexico City Arena.

Take a look inside the fight with Chairez, who got a measure of vengeance after his first submission of Lacerda was flipped to a no contest.

Chairez on the fight’s key moment

“It’s been 10 years (waiting for my first UFC win). Of course he was exhausted. I know that I won the first time (despite the no contest). I know that the second time, he wasn’t ready. But finally, this is over.”

“My opponent didn’t make weight. They told me three hours before. I was already cutting weight, and I had three more hours to cut wait. But they told me, ‘Your opponent is not going to make the weight.’ So why am I still suffering in the bathtub? I just want to fight.

“I always cut a lot of weight in the morning. I cut about 10 pounds in the morning (of weigh-ins). So when they told me my opponent wasn’t going to make weight, they told me just go to the weigh-in ceremony.”

“I don’t want to think anymore about this dude (Lacerda). Of course I’m happy that I finished him. It was exhausting not fighting the last time, but right now I’ve got the win, and this is for Mexico. … I want to finish the year in the top 10.”
