Based in Miami by way of the Chicago suburbs, Adelle grew up as an only child and used music to channel her emotions. Her first performance took place at her second-grade talent show, where she performed One Republic’s “Stop and Stare.”
From writing her first songs as an “anxious wreck” in elementary school to turning down a Division 1 college hockey offer to pursue her creative passions to collaborating with established producers like Cole Kruggel (Juice WRLD, Tory Lanez), and Danny Garcia (Ariana Grande, Jason Derulo, Bryce Vine), Emmy Adelle has been honing her artistry since childhood.
Adelle’s sound blends elements of organic and electronic pop into haunting melodies, while her influences include Olivia Rodrigo, Juice WRLD, Odesza, and Troye Sivan.
“Over” opens on a beautiful, melancholic piano, followed by the entry of Adelle’s rich, evocative vocals, highlighted by smoky nuances and hints of luscious raspiness. It’s one of those voices that reveals myriad layers of profound emotions, as well as intimate vulnerability as if peering out from behind a curtain like a sad Medusa.
Lyrically, “Over” is wistful as Adelle processes the anguish of love and loss. The mid-tempo rhythm supports the delicious profile of the melody, imbuing the tune with allusions of drifting motion and wavering accents.
Emmy Adelle’s remarkable debut track, “Over,” offers the adrift feeling of love in the ruins and the soul-searching examination it engenders.
