Endurance Motorsport Series On The Way As Copyright-Friendly, WEC-Inspired Sim Racer
If youâre looking for endurance-focused racing games, youâre spoilt for choice at the moment. Assetto Corsa Competizione has long proven the go-to for GT3 racing, while Rennsport is in early access and directly competing with it. Those with a penchant for WEC licensing can now play Le Mans Ultimate, although that will soon have a copyright-friendly alternative.
Endurance Motorsport Series (or EMS, as weâll call it from now on), has been announced by Nacon. In case youâre not familiar, the French studio had been responsible for the official WRC games before Codemasters acquired the licence, and currently working on both Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown and Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator. Talk about diversity.
A teaser trailer for EMS gives little away, other than showcasing Porsche 963 LMDh racer and the 911 GT3R. Thereâs also the tagline âRace as a driver, win as a teamâ, while the Steam page for the game says you can be in âthe heart of the pits as a racing engineerâ. How that plays out remains to be seen, but could make for some exciting co-op online action.
EMS is said to include âthe best Hypercars, LMP2 and GT from the major car manufacturersâ, which is a great way of saying WEC without using the licence. Which tracks are included remains to be seen, although weâd hope at the minimum for the Circuit de la Sarthe, the home of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Motorsport Games holds the licence to the official race branding and has famously been quite precious over that fact. However, the licence to the circuit itself has seemingly remained fair game, appearing in Gran Turismo 7 and, more recently, Forza Motorsport.
EMS will release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X in 2025. Weâll keep you posted with more information as we have it.
