England vs. Spain live updates: Start time, lineups, analysis, highlights for UEFA Euro 2024 final
After a month of play, the UEFA Euro 2024 final is here. Spain and England have made their way through the field of top European teams, and will face off Sunday (3 p.m. ET, Fox/Univision) at Olympiastadion in Berlin with a chance to claim the Euros trophy.
England, which claims to have invented the modernized version of the sport, has longed to “bring home” the European Championships trophy, but has struggled in past years. The team came closest last Euros, nearly advancing to the final in the COVID-delayed 2020 tournament, but falling in the semifinals to Italy in penalties.
Spain, meanwhile, have won the trophy three times, in 1964 and back-to-back in 2008 and 2012. The two teams, despite being strong UEFA contenders, have not met since October 2018, where England took a 3-2 win in a UEFA Nations League matchup.
Sunday’s match is likely to be close, with England and Spain both ranked in the top 10 of the FIFA rankings. Based on the excitement of Spain’s win over France and England’s win over the Netherlands in the semifinals, fans will be hoping for another thriller.

Player spotlight: RodriPrior to the Euros and Copa América, I wrote a piece on how the two tournaments would influence the “best player in the world” debate — which, at the time, seemed open-ended.
One player on the fringes of that conversation was Rodri, “the rock at the heart of Manchester City, a conductor and destroyer and occasional clutch goalscorer all packed into one.”
The argument against his inclusion was that he’s a system player, elevated by Pep Guardiola’s Man City machine.
But the Euros have disproved that. As various attackers, from Mbappé to Phil Foden — not to mention Vinicius Jr., Lionel Messi and others at the Copa América — have sputtered, Rodri has starred. If he bests Jude Bellingham today, you could make a real case for him as the sport’s best all-around player right now.

Best unit vs. best playersThat’s what this Euro 2024 final.
Spain has been the most cohesive and tactically excellent team at this tournament.
England, on paper, has the most individual talent. Per Transfermarkt, its squad value is by far the highest of any national team in the world, €1.52 billion to Spain’s €966 million.
This matchup, therefore, begs the always-provocative question: In international soccer, do players or systems carry the most weight?
We won’t necessarily get the answer today, but we’ll get another data point
