EPL: Nuno Espirito Santo gives update on Taiwo Awoniyi’s injury after West Ham win

Taiwo Awoniyi scored ten goals in his debut season in the English top flight as Nottingham Forest narrowly avoided relegation under Steve Cooper.

Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo has given an update on Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi after the forward went off with an injury in the 2-0 win against West Ham, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi, 26, has been in fine form for the Reds this season, having a hand in eight goals from fourteen outings in the league.

The former Union Berlin forward recently returned from a groin injury after the recurrence of the same kept him out of the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.

In their home clash yesterday, Nuno’s men welcomed West Ham who were in rocky form and Awoniyi scored just before half-time to give his team the lead, with Callum Hudson Odoi scoring the second of the game.

The Nigerian striker had to be taken off a few minutes after the hour mark in what looked like another injury, and his coach mentioned he’d been struggling with the problem for a while, hinting at another groin lesion.

“We have to assess him and see how he is. We all know he has been struggling for a long time, and hadn’t played much. We have pushed him, and he’s done more than he should have. We hope it’s nothing serious,” the former Wolves manager said in quotes revealed by Derby Unifoot.

Nottingham Forest are currently 15th on the Premier League table and are six points clear of the relegation spots.
