Erica Mena Speaks On Co-Parenting, Music Video Career & Colorism Controversy
Mena was open about the current status of co-parenting with her ex-husband Safaree Samuels. When Cam asked her how things were going, she said, âI want it to be better. I pray every day it gets better.â Erica recently accused Safaree of neglecting and improperly âgroomingâ their children while they were in his care. The former reality star said that she will continue her duties as a mom until Safaree steps up. Additionally, she spoke about her music video career. She said that she was âscrawnyâ and didnât really feel sexy when she began, but she âknew [she] had what it takes.â
Newton also asked her about the colorism controversy with her âLove and Hip Hopâ cast mate, Spice. As previously reported by The Shade Room, Mena received backlash after referring to the Jamaican artist as a âblue monkey.â She said, âmy actions have a lot more of an impact than I ever thought it had.â She added that she was âdisappointed that [she] let down women of color.â Erica said that she wished more of Spiceâs behavior was shown so viewers had a better understanding of why she was provoked, but she was going to take âaccountabilityâ regardless. Cam commended her, responding, âIâm glad you said that.â Erica added, âIt was just all wrong in the choice of words.â
Spice Responds To Erica Menaâs Comments
Spice subsequently jumped into the comments on The Shade Roomâs Instagram report and responded. The singerâs lengthy message read:
âGirl bye, at least you confessed that you requested to speak to me, because on a normal day you couldnât sit at my table because I been knew you think youâre better than dark skin girls. I heard how you spoke about me behind my back, you just got caught on Camera that day.â Spice continued, âTake me out of the equation since you still have a Victim mentality in our situation. What was the reason you called the promoters in Miami Black animals and monkey, why did you call Johnni Blaze a black monkey?(Everything is on Google)â
The 41-year-old added, âYou brought your own son to the conversation, and you came to that table to talk about Amaras twins, no one canât provoke you to say racial slurs. Remember âYou are a repeated offenderâ you have no remorse for a culture that put millions of [dollars] in your pocket. You could have said anything but you chose to disrespect a whole Nation. Interviews are not therapy but Carry on.â
Looks like Spice and Mena will have beef foreva.
