Erica Mena Speaks On Co-Parenting, Music Video Career & Colorism Controversy
Mena was open about the current status of co-parenting with her ex-husband Safaree Samuels. When Cam asked her how things were going, she said, “I want it to be better. I pray every day it gets better.” Erica recently accused Safaree of neglecting and improperly “grooming” their children while they were in his care. The former reality star said that she will continue her duties as a mom until Safaree steps up. Additionally, she spoke about her music video career. She said that she was “scrawny” and didn’t really feel sexy when she began, but she “knew [she] had what it takes.”

Newton also asked her about the colorism controversy with her ‘Love and Hip Hop’ cast mate, Spice. As previously reported by The Shade Room, Mena received backlash after referring to the Jamaican artist as a “blue monkey.” She said, “my actions have a lot more of an impact than I ever thought it had.” She added that she was “disappointed that [she] let down women of color.” Erica said that she wished more of Spice’s behavior was shown so viewers had a better understanding of why she was provoked, but she was going to take “accountability” regardless. Cam commended her, responding, “I’m glad you said that.” Erica added, “It was just all wrong in the choice of words.”

Spice Responds To Erica Mena’s Comments
Spice subsequently jumped into the comments on The Shade Room’s Instagram report and responded. The singer’s lengthy message read:

“Girl bye, at least you confessed that you requested to speak to me, because on a normal day you couldn’t sit at my table because I been knew you think you’re better than dark skin girls. I heard how you spoke about me behind my back, you just got caught on Camera that day.” Spice continued, “Take me out of the equation since you still have a Victim mentality in our situation. What was the reason you called the promoters in Miami Black animals and monkey, why did you call Johnni Blaze a black monkey?(Everything is on Google)”

The 41-year-old added, “You brought your own son to the conversation, and you came to that table to talk about Amaras twins, no one can’t provoke you to say racial slurs. Remember ‘You are a repeated offender’ you have no remorse for a culture that put millions of [dollars] in your pocket. You could have said anything but you chose to disrespect a whole Nation. Interviews are not therapy but Carry on.”

Looks like Spice and Mena will have beef foreva.
