After turning professional in 2008 in Turkey, Lara moved to the U.S., and by 2013, he secured his first world title—the interim WBA light middleweight championship. Things developed on the personal front as well. In 2017, roughly six years after he came to the United States, Lara and his wife Yudi were finally granted American citizenship. The couple were already living in Houston, Texas, with their three children. In the past, Yudi Lara grabbed headlines for the way she went against Gabe Rosado.
