ESPN analyst addresses whether Jalen Milroe would return to Alabama for another college football season
ESPN analyst Jordan Rodgers told Paul Finebaum that Jalen Milroe isnât likely to return to Alabama for a fifth college football season. With that said, Rodgers believes that he should after a disappointing performance during the Crimson Tideâs 19-13 loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
âHe is not going to come back I donât think, but he absolutely should. You didnât see growth this year. You didnât see a guy develop as more than just an athlete. And he is dynamic. When he takes off and runs. He had that long run before the half that got them in position for a field goal. Some of his steps are unbelievable. But he did not develop as a passer,â Rodgers said.
âYou watch early this game against Michigan, his feet were slow. Getting to reads, getting through progressions. He was late, which caused some issues. It was ugly.â
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer claimed that he stuck with Milroe because of what he saw in the QBâs eyes.
âI saw, I guess, a fighter, the fight in his eyes. And as long as I see that, I wanna hang in there with the guys that this program means a lot to,â DeBoer said during the postgame press conference.
The conversation surrounding Milroe drastically changed from Alabamaâs College Football Playoff Semifinal loss to Michigan on New Yearâs Day at the Rose Bowl and Tuesdayâs New Yearâs Eve stinker at Raymond James Stadium.
Nick Saban had Milroe in the conversation to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft. DeBoer and Nick Sheridan have Milroe in a conversation about his career benefitting from one more year of college football.
The âBama Standardâ has lowered across the board, but Milroeâs fall from grace is an enlightening microcosm of that drop.
