Fans left puzzled by one surprising aspect of PFL head’s claims about ONE Championship proposal… ‘Who loses?’

Donn Davis recently responded to a dream super fights card that pitted two promotions against each other.

It’s set to be a busy few months for the PFL as the promotion wraps up the first year of its new World Tournament format that has replaced the regular season.

With the likes of Movlid Khaybulaev earning big wins, the tournament appears to have been a success even if there have been some issues with several of the promotion’s top stars.

One thing that the PFL has openly spoken out for several years is their willingness to take part in some form of co-promotion.

PFL co-founder Donn Davis recently claimed that ONE Championship turned down a proposal for a super fights card that would’ve pitted the two promotions’ best fighters against one another.

The event would certainly be a spectacle that would help to break down barriers, which clearly the PFL is open to attempting.

ONE has been placing less emphasis on the MMA side of their promotion for some time now, with Muay Thai and kickboxing clearly taking priority for their plans.

However, as the post that Davis responded to from Combat Sports Today shows, there would still be some interesting matchups that could take place.

ONE’s heavyweight champion Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane would be a fun matchup for Francis Ngannou due to the sheer size of both men and their African backgrounds, while other potential clashes like Akbar Abdullaev taking on Usman Nurmagomedov with both men’s undefeated records being on the line also stand out.

While Davis is clearly in support of this idea, one aspect of his post did leave some fans confused after he stated that PFL “would win almost all the fights”.

He claimed that if they collided with ONE Championship across eight weight classes, PFL would win seven of the matchups.

‘Who is the 1, Donn?’

‘Chatri and 1 PFL fighter caught so much shade right now.’

‘Why didn’t you say 8 to 0? Who’s losing lol.’

‘Who’s the 1 loss?’

Other fans suggested that Davis saying PFL would lose one fight was optimistic, making reference to their previous head-to-head event that pitted two rosters against each other.

‘How did PFL vs Bellator turn out?’

‘Yeah it would be almost as bad as when Bellator destroyed PFL.’

Ultimately, while the PFL’s stars didn’t do very well against their Bellator counterparts, this still benefitted the promotion as a whole, which wouldn’t be the case if they were to put on a show with a different promotion.

Any chance of some kind of crossover event between two promotions still seems highly unlikely though it’s clear that if anyone is going to pull it off, it’s the PFL.
