Felt Her? Halle Berry Talks Aging “Gracefully” Amid Beauty Trends Turning Women “Into Monsters” (VIDEO)
Roommates, it seems like Halle Berry prefers her talent to speak before her face card swipes! The Hollywood icon recently got serious about what she longs for people to see in her in an interview with Fortune Magazine.
“I have longed for someone to say something other than ‘Oh gosh, you’re so pretty.’ I’ve longed to hear other words. I know I’m more than this,” Berry said.
Halle Berry Shares Her Thoughts On Aging “Gracefully”
Halle also shared that the constant praise of her beauty and societal standards have impacted her view of aging. The actress told the outlet that she’s determined to age “gracefully and naturally.”
“I think it’s a shame that as women we’re being told that we have to find a way to stay eternally young, forever 30 — as though we’re not allowed to be human and do what we’re naturally born to do. We’re born to age and die. But somehow as women we have to do the unthinkable.”
The pressure is causing women to turn themselves “into monsters,” Halle Berry added. “I’m committed to being a spokesperson for allowing yourself to age gracefully, knowing that you’re more than this shell you’re walking around in.” The ‘Cat Woman’ superstar turned 58 in August.
Actress Says Aging Is Different For Men & Women
Halle Berry also noted that aging is different for men and women in the eyes of society. Men get gray hair and become sexy silver foxes, while women get old “and haggard,” the actress said. But she’s not here for that viewpoint!
“Society has told us that our time is up; while I know that we’re just getting our groove, we’re just getting started. But women don’t understand that yet because society has told us something different. So it’s about us women reclaiming that narrative and changing the way we’re seen throughout the entirety of ourselves,” Halle Berry shared.
Amid her advocacy, Halle Berry launched a wellness business for midlife women called Respin. Additionally, the actress is currently advocating for Congress to pass a bill to direct millions to research menopause therapies and medicines.
