Filip Jorgensen joins Chelsea in £20.7m transfer and already showcasing skills in training

Filip Jorgensen’s move to Chelsea has been confirmed to become the seventh signing of the Enzo Maresca era.

talkSPORT recently reported last week how the Blues had struck a £20.7million agreement with Villarreal regarding the goalkeeper.

Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of goalkeeper Jorgensen from VillarrealIt led to the 22-year-old undergoing his medical in America, with the west Londoners currently Stateside for their pre-season tour.

And now his arrival at Chelsea has been officially announced, with the youngster penning a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with the option of a further 12 months.

Jorgensen said: “This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new teammates.”

Known for his passing abilities, Jorgensen’s profile was identified to perfectly compliment Maresca’s style of play, which requires goalkeeper’s being comfortable with the ball.

The 22-year-old was already showcasing his creative distribution as he immediately joined Chelsea training.

talkSPORT correspondent Ben Jacobs posted a video of Jorgensen in training immediately after he signed.

He is the sixth goalkeeper Chelsea have brought in since 2018, and the fourth to be signed since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed their takeover two years ago.

Jorgensen is the seventh player to be signed by Chelsea this summer as Maresca looks to assemble of squad capable of qualifying for the Champions League.

Tosin Adarabioyo was the club’s first signing, where he was brought in on a free transfeer, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall followed Maresca from Leicester in a deal worth £30m.

Meanwhile Chelsea have also secured the services of Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Renato Veiga and Caleb Wiley.

And seven will soon become eight with teenage defender Aaron Anselmino to join from Boca Juniors fir around £16m.

Jorgensen, who has featured for both Sweden and Denmark at international youth level, come through the ranks at Spanish side Villarreal.

It took him until the 2022/23 season for him to make his league debut, where he appeared in two matches.

And last campaign he cemented himself as the club’s No1 between the sticks – playing in 36 out of 38 LaLiga matches.

He only penned a new deal at the Estadio de la Ceramica in June, but has jumped at the chance of playing Premier League football.

Jorgensen could make his Chelsea debut out in America, while it is expected he will be in the line-up to face Manchester City on the opening day of the new season on August 18.
