First-ever Accra Bar show scheduled for August 9-11

Accra is gearing up for an unforgettable experience as the Accra Bar Show 2024 makes its debut from Friday, August 9 -11 at the Zinnia Event Centre, Burma Camp.

The event promises to give a facelift to the drinks and hospitality sector, offering an immersive experience that will enthrall both industry professionals and enthusiasts.

As the first-of-its-kind event in Ghana, the Accra Bar Show is set to establish itself as the premier destination for unveiling the latest trends, cutting-edge products, and innovative solutions shaping the drinks industry.

Speaking at the press launch held at No.19 Bar and restaurant in Accra on Thursday, Mr Kojo Aidoo, the organiser said the upcoming event will mark a significant milestone in the celebration of the vibrant and dynamic world of cocktails, mixology, and the hospitality industry in Ghana.

“The Accra Bar show is more than just an event, it is a celebration of creativity, innovations, and the spirit of hospitality. It is a platform where professionals and enthusiasts come together to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and showcase their talents.

“This event aims to introduce new brands, elevate the standards of our local bar scene, inspire new trends and foster a sense of community among all participants,” he said.

Mr. Aidoo noted that the three-day show will not only entertain but also educate patrons about the professional aspects of bartending, challenging the stereotype that bartenders are uneducated or lack academic qualifications.

The maiden edition of the Accra Bar show will be an array of exciting activities including masterclasses, conferences/seminars, cocktail competitions, exhibitions, tasting and sampling.

“ We have curated a diverse programme that not only highlights the arts of mixology but also addresses important topics such as sustainability, responsible drinking and future of the bar industry,” he noted.

The show will be crowned with a brunch for members of the bar industry on Sunday, August 11 at No.19 Bar and Restaurant at Airport, in Accra.

The launch event, hosted by Kojo Manuel and attended by several bartenders, also provided an opportunity for some bartenders to voice their concerns about their low wages.

In response, Mr. Aidoo assured that these issues will be addressed during the seminars and conferences, which will feature leaders from relevant associations and government representatives from the Ghana Tourism Authority.

These discussions aim to tackle the challenges faced by bartenders, including their compensation, and explore ways to improve their working conditions and overall well-being.
