Florida Gators DB Dijon Johnson Arrested in Tampa

Florida Gators defensive back Dijon Jaquis Johnson, 21, was arrested on May 2 in Tampa, Florida, following a traffic stop. Johnson faces multiple charges, including possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and resisting an officer without violence.

According to the Tampa Police Department, officers initiated the stop at approximately 11:14 p.m. after observing a gray Dodge Challenger stopping beyond the designated stop bar at an intersection. Johnson, identified as the driver, reportedly became argumentative and refused to exit the vehicle when instructed. Officers eventually removed and detained him.

A subsequent search of the vehicle, prompted by the odor of burned marijuana, led to the discovery of a backpack containing Johnson’s passport, approximately 8 grams of synthetic marijuana, an unspecified amount of marijuana, and a Glock 19 handgun loaded with 17 rounds in the magazine.

While Johnson has received three traffic citations in Alachua County, there is no additional local criminal history on record. He was released after posting $8,500 bail.

Johnson was a consensus four-star recruit out of Wharton High School in Tampa. He appeared in all 12 games for Florida during the 2023 season, contributing primarily on special teams. In 2024, he saw increased playing time at defensive back, including five starts across 13 games.
