FlyQuest vs Gen.G Recap
FlyQuest vs Gen.G Game 1

Gen.G went into game one with a very tried and trusted dive comp that provided brillinat teamfights and good transitions for the early, mid and late game. Meanwhile, FlyQuest looked for creativity and control with a fairly original draft.

Neither team got into a scrap 9 minutes into the game. After FlyQuest took the first drake, they used that early objective buff to contest for Void Grubs, which amazingly ended in their favor, giving the NA underdogs the first three kills.

But an overeager midlane push weakened Quad and co., giving GEN a clear window for the Herald. A few minutes passed, and FLY Busio once again made a confident play that cost Gen.G two deaths. But winning in a deficit was common in the LCK, so the American boys couldn’t do anything flashy.

A phenomenal flank from Bwipo helped his team rack up more kills, which led to a Baron. Chovy’s team had to trade it for a Drake which helped them get some momentum. But a high-stakes Soul Point eventually went FlyQuest’s way, giving them the first Nexus, and the first NA quarterfinals win against the LCK in six years!

Quick Stats:

Teams: GEN vs FLY
First Blood: FLY
Game Time: 31:43
Gold: 52.5k – 58.8k
Kills: 3 – 13
Turrets: 3 – 8
Dragons: 1 – 4
Barons: 1 – 0

FlyQuest vs Gen.G Game 2

A confident Nunu pocket pick from Inspired was countered by Gen.G’s Kassadin-Nidalee combo. But both sides were going to have a hard time executing team plays with such niche champs.

Bwipo became priority #1 for Korea’s #2 seed, so Peyz followed him around the Rift to deny a meaningful laning phase with Ashe. This resulted in low damage numbers from FLY. And what followed was a dominant early game from the side of Gen.G.

GEN Kiin was also extremely diabolic around the map, taking over for Peyz when his ADC was needed elsewhere. Holding all of the cards, the Koreans kept firing on all cylinders — solidifying their lead with each teamfight before inevitably reaching FlyQuest’s nexus.

Gen.G takes back the series with a convincing Game 2 win.

Quick Stats:

Teams: GEN vs FLY
First Blood: GEN
Game Time: 26:32
Gold: 56.5k – 41.8k
Kills: 19 – 6
Turrets: 10 – 2
Dragons: 2 – 2
Barons: 1 – 0

FlyQuest vs Gen.G Game 3

An unexpected pick by Bwipo gave them an element of surprise against Gen.G’s ultra-melee comp as they played the Blue side once again.

After an exciting brawl put FlyQuest 2 kills over Chovy and co., FLY worked on funnelling gold into their ADC while GEN Canyon took Grubs and ganked top.

Gen.G was playing it safe, which made it hard for Jungler Inspired to make a play of his own. Meanwhile, Gen.G’s Canyon was farming objectives to make up for their 1k gold deficit, and they got close when Inspired overextended at top against Chovy’s Sylas.

The NA roster impressively kept it up and played conservatively when they needed to. The pressure was mounting when GEN was one teamfight away from equalizing. But Quad’s team turned around at just the right moment for an incredible ace.

With a 7.5k gold lead, Gen.G stayed on the defensive. Later on, they secured a Hextech drake after fighting intelligently. But even when they were surrounded on all sides, Bwipo and co. were able to turn every fight and gain the upper hand in the bo5.

Quick Stats:

Teams: FLY vs GEN
First Blood: FLY
Game Time: 42:32
Gold: 84.4k – 70.4k
Kills: 21 – 8
Turrets: 9 – 4
Dragons: 3 – 3
Barons: 1 – 0

FlyQuest vs Gen.G Game 4

Comfort picks from both sides this time around as the series went to match point, threatening an upset to shatter Gen.G’s golden road.

FlyQuest outplayed Gen.G into spending not one but three flashes 3 minutes in. Meanwhile, Kiin’s dominant K’Sante went in on Massu — who overextended hard — to take First Blood. Inspired responded with a mid gank that also baited a very late flash from Chovy.

Nonetheless, Gen.G’s toplaner was the #1 threat, especially once he scales into the late-game fights. So FlyQuest had to find leads quickly.

The LCK #2 seed’s macro was shining through, and it earned them a comfortable 3k gold lead. With three turrets down, FLY were at a major disadvantage.

After a chase for a Kiin shutdown went sideways, FLY’s opportunities for a turnaround became fewer and farther between. With no meaningful way to fire back, Gen.G continued their dominant march to Silver Scrapes.

Quick Stats:

Teams: GEN vs FLY
First Blood: GEN
Game Time: 29:10
Gold: 58.0k – 42.9k
Kills: 17 – 3
Turrets: 10 – 0
Dragons: 2 – 2
Barons: 1 – 0

FlyQuest vs Gen.G Game 5

With a top 4 spot on the line, FlyQuest wanted to make a statement with two 0% pick rate champs that shook the Adidas Arena.

Much like Game 1, both teams played conservatively throughout the laning phase to gather objective leads. And it all went to FlyQuest, who took Void Grubs despite pressure from Chovy’s Smoulder. FLY Massu made the most out of the small advances his team afforded, but Gen. G’s two out-of-position kills set the mood for the whole game.

This sharply turned into a snowball for the Korean team, who went on to claim a Baron. FLY got small picks around the map to stop the bleeding but Chovy would not be denied.

With an irrevocable 3-9 lead, Gen.G were in the driver’s seat for the rest of the game. FlyQuest tried making a bid for the second Baron. But in the end, Gen.G took the final ace before solidifying their LCK dominance on the Worlds stage.

Quick Stats:

Teams: FLY vs GEN
First Blood: GEN
Game Time: 30:06
Gold: 49.1k – 57.5k
Kills: 3 – 14
Turrets: 3 – 8
Dragons: 1 – 3
Barons: 2 – 0
